Spousal Quips

The Husband person likes to think he's funny. Truth is, he is. Most of the time I spend laughing with him at the crazy stuff that comes out of his mouth (and there's a lot of it!). So this weekend while in the mountains, we kept a list of (most of) the crazy things that were said...well..at least the more appropriate ones.

  • (reading instructions to cabin) Oh good there's a security gate. It will keep the bears out.
  • (Upon seeing said gate) Wait...bears can go UNDER and AROUND that gate. What the hell good does that do? (Me: The bears are hibernating..it's winter. There are no bears.)
  • Southern Wedding check list: Beer, Bait & cheap ass wine.
  • Him: If I leave I'm writing you a John Deere letter.  Me: I think you mean a Dear John Letter. Him: no, I mean John Deere Letter...I'm southern now.
  • Oh no, we don't stop there. They don't just have banjo's, that's where they sell the banjos!
  • We can't stay long at the scenic outlook. The banjo guys may steal the truck.
  • (about our eldest munchkin) The angry birds make her angry...why can't we have calm birds?
  • Stupid 200 thread count sheets..see! I told you we were camping!
  • I support the youth ministries as long as it's not a cult or something.
  • (said about my dad who is technology challenged) He'll come over and say "I bet we can find that on the internet" and I want to say "Go ahead..google..I dare you."
  • (Watching The Voice) OMG it's Cee Lo and his big fluffy cat!
  • Me: That's not a bar, it's an auction house. Him: What do they auction there? Me: Banjos.
  • (To the massage lady) Yeah, I keep looking for bears. Her: Oh they are everywhere up here! Him (to me of course!) SEEEE!!
  • (Upon hearing gun shots at 9pm at night) Oh great..bears..someone is getting attacked by bears right now and we have no cell phone service and cant call out on the land line.
  • There are no fish in this fishing pond. Why do they call it a fishing pond if there are no fish? It's a fishing pond not a catching pond.
  • We could walk to the inn for breakfast. (It was up/down a mountain & 20 degrees outside)
  • We're old...it's 8pm, we're vacation and ready for sleep.
  • It said "fireside dinner" but I didn't realize they meant we had to COOK it near OUR fireside!
  • 7:30 am on Sunday...he's up, dressed and packing the truck.
  • Me upon crossing the AL line: Welcome Home! Him: OMG I have NEVER been so happy to be headed back to a farm in AL.
  • We had banjo guys and bears...if we had Uncle Remus we would have had a musical!
Much love,
 Gayla

Key to our cabin

It' a nice day for a white wedding...

To say I was nervous about our wedding would be a major understatement. We made it to the cabin late Thursday night without much of a plan at all for what the actual day of the wedding was going to look like. It's kind of hard to plan a wedding full or surprises with another person who is also planning a wedding full of surprises. So we kind of laughed about possibly overlapping what we had done.

I was nervous because packed away in a a tote upstairs in the cabin was a beautiful cream colored wedding dress courtesy of MockingBirdDontWrite by way of The Traveling Red Dress Project that was started by the amazing Bloggess, Jenny Lawson.

Friday we went to the Inn that runs the cabins for breakfast and we were the only guest. That didn't stop them from laying white linens on the table and serving us a 3 course meal.

We spent most of Friday during the day shopping in the square and mostly being us. We walked and window shopped and played in antique stores. We had lunch at a nice little shop called Cantebury and enjoyed our day. When it started to get colder, we headed back and decided to go fishing. Yes...I let my future spouse go fishing on our wedding day. I'm told I'm the perfect wife just for this reason.
But it was time to go back..and we decided to do the wedding. Nic didn't want to me once we started and I didn't want her to see the surprise I had yet so I went upstairs while he got dressed downstairs. Before I went he gave me three boxes...a wedding present, he told me..containing a necklace, bracelet & earrings. My present to her was a pair of leather chuck taylors I gave him years ago as a birthday present and a message that he should never get married in dress shoes. Chuck taylors are his thing...and it was way more fitting fir us.

The time came and he started the music and closed his eyes while I went to the top of the stairs. I stood here for what felt like an eternity, my heart thundering in my chest. I asked him to open his eyes and I stood there watching as the shock dawned across his face.
To say it was a surprise would be an understatement to a great degree. I had laughingly told her earlier in the evening that when the time came that the time came the appropriate answer was not "I KNEW IT!" but I wouldn't tell her WHAT that answer wasn't appropriate for. I know, wife like, right? But he has no idea...never even crossed her mind. His mouth dropped open and he kept gasping "Oh my Gawd" and "How?" But I promised the story would come later.

And my Groom was just as perfect...Handsome, isn't he?

The ceremony was exactly what we needed it to be..just us, saying what we needed to one another. The flowers were a gift by a wonderful friend who offered after reading the story on my blog. She made the most gorgeous bouquet and boutineer just out of kindness and another friend made the wedding cake which was so damn good it's sinful.
He had brought the unity candle and the wine, and the wrapped napkin is a glass that in the Jewish tradition the Groom steps on during the ceremony for good luck.

This was my red dress moment...this was what I wanted most for my wedding day...to see the look on his face, to take his breath away just this once. I got it. The amazement and love written all over it in one beautiful surprising moment, in a dress that was a miracle, holding friends and strangers in our hearts. Supported by wonderful people who love us dearly.

And when it was done...we were married.

Happily Ever After...always and all ways.

Much love,
 Gayla

It's almost time..

We have everything under the sun and then some packed into the back of the truck. I swear I can't imagine why we would need that many things for just two people going to stay in a remote cabin for 2 1/2 days. But there's hiking and fishing and this little thing called a wedding....so I guess there's reason!

The truth is, I'm kinda nervous. Which is funny in it's own little way. I've been in love with Nic for years and I've known that I'd spend the rest of my life by her side almost since the very first day. It was frightening at first, to have that type of devotion so quickly and so easily but it just was. There wasn't any fighting it for me and I accepted that I would follow him to the ends of the earth.

In some ways, I have.

Not all the years were easy. Some of them were damn hard when you try managing a long distance relationship, learning about each other and dealing with life in general. But we did it and tomorrow at 5 years into a relationship, we will say vows to each other that tie us even closer than we were before.

And there's a dress in an obnoxiously green tote that I've hidden away, just waiting to surprise him with thanks to MockingBirdDontWrite who gave me a fairy tale by giving me her Wedding Dress and the amazing experinence of our own Traveling Red Dress Experience.

But the magic hasn't stopped there..this morning a new found friend brought me this...
She made me a bouquet and a boutineer for Nic after I told her about our red dress experience. She also enlisted the help of another new friend who is delivering a small wedding cake sometime today. All to be packed away and to surprise the love of my life.

For those of you keeping up..We leave for the cabin today at 3pm CST. The wedding will be held sometime tomorrow evening..I don't have a time because we tried to keep this super casual secret and well...it's hard to  have to combine plans without the other one knowing!

I am in awe. Truly.

Much love,
 Gayla

FEB6th

FEB6th- dinner..or lunch since I doubt id remember dinner pics

Dum..dum...Da..dum!

I'm getting married in a few days.
Me...married.
WOW.

It's kind of funny and surreal and omg scary all rolled into one. You see, we were never going to do this. This wasn't who we were, or what we wanted. Our relationship was great, but this wasn't something we needed because the commitment was already there.

I remember Nic telling me when I left from the first weekend visit at the house that he couldn't stand missing me..and telling him that I'd miss him enough for both of us.

I remember telling him I loved him for the first time and explaining that I didn't need her to love me back...because at the time I knew she thought she couldn't..and didn't.

I remember talking for hours about how it looked like a duck and walked like a duck and sounded like a duck but we were going to call it an elephant because he couldn't actually say that he was in love with me.

And you'd think that it was years and years ago..but you'd be surprised to know it took 3 years for him to finally admit it and tell me he had fallen in love with me.

I already knew of course..I had always known. But I am patient and I was truthful when I said in year one that I didn't need her to love me back.

But if you had asked me in year one, I would have never guessed this was going to happen.
5 years later...here we are.
Wow.

Much love,
 Gayla
